be or not to be (an artist) :

Gerald Scarfe write about his friend Ronald Searle, a cartoon artist. Gerald meet Ronald in a restaurant in Provence thanks to his wife, who make him meet him al his birthday. Since that day they become closers, Gerald remember the dry sense of humor of Ronald and said that he was always drawing in little papers and gave them for presents, and his mind was lively. Ronald loves to drink champagne and talk about art; he helped Gerald with his work and send him extensives tips and “what I like about your work” comments. Ronald teache Gerald how create a character, that the drawing must be done aware of the sicological features of each character. Ronald find his passion been a japanese prisoner of war camp and his cartoons and almost always about political subjects, he was very popular in Europe and published in european newspapers like Le Monde. He wasn't very popular in British becouse there, cartoon artist aren't well consider as artist. The comic world is underestimated in many countries, as Germany and France, at least in the times of Ronald Searle. Gerald Scarfe regrets that he was never knighted, but the most probably thing is that he really don't care about it.
